Following on from HRZone’s publication of the workplace diversity content hub, we decided to run a #HRZdiversity Twitter chat to explore some of the key issues highlighted by the hub’s contributed authors and to help widen the diversity and inclusion conversation.

The hour-long chat kicked off at 3pm on Monday 16th October, and joining us were several experts within the D&I space including Christiana Vonofakou (Head of Strategic HR Projects, TE Connectivity), Nic Hammarling (Partner & Head of Diversity at Pearn Kandola) and Jasmine Gartner (Training Consultant with expertise in D&I training).

Here are the questions we asked:

Q1: Can you tell us about your current role/industry, and what diversity-related work (if any) you do?

Q2: What are the key benefits of drawing on a diverse pool of talent?

Q3: Diversity is perhaps more widely discussed than inclusion. Why do you think this is? How can organisations put more focus on inclusion?

Q4: Everyone has unconscious biases. How can these be combated in the workplace to ensure that people aren’t discriminated against?

Q5: Do you feel adequate progress is being made to tackle workplace diversity in the UK? Or is this issue falling by the wayside? Why is this?

Q6: Lastly, what three things can employers start doing right away to create more diversity at work?
