Job Board definition

Originally a physical board where new job roles could be posted, but now most often refers to an online location that lists job vacancies. Job sites can be general, posting vacancies across many industries, seniority levels and locations, or focused on one particular area e.g. creative jobs or executive jobs. The general job board market is dominated by a few big players.

Job boards may simply list open positions and the relevant contact details or include a standardised application platform that allows candidates to apply directly, in which case the collateral (covering letter, CV, portfolio) is then forwarded onto either the recruitment company or direct to the hiring business.

Recruitment companies often post open positions to job boards as part of their service to HR departments. More advanced job boards allow recruitment companies or in-house recruiters to browse job seekers on the site, making recruitment a more mutual process.
