Disease Management definition

An umbrella term that refers to the people, processes and ideas associated with improving health in large populations. In a Governmental/public health context, it typically concerns itself with common, widespread, highly contagious diseases, and diseases that are highly correlated with negative lifestyle behaviours e.g. lung cancer.

HR departments in large organisations may have responsibility for disease management. At this level, the range of conditions covered may be broader as simple things, such as colds, can quickly spread throughout an enclosed environment and hit office productivity.

Information dissemination is a key part of disease management. At the corporate level, posters on effective hand-washing are one technique commonly used.
