Casual Employment definition

Taking on employees using non-formal procedures and policies e.g. using zero-hour contracts. Used as an alternative to permanent employment, often to satisfy seasonal demand or provide cover due to sickness, maternity leave or long-term absence. Casual employment is widely used in the run-up to holiday periods, especially Christmas, when retail shops offer jobs that have no long-term contract and end after the holiday rush.
