HR tip: Redundancy consultation

Question: "In a redundancy situation should I consult with each individual, the whole group or representatives?"

HR Tip: Collective consultation means that you must consult with everyone affected. Traditionally this is done through representatives but there is nothing to stop you talking to the whole group.

However, having done this and having made an initial selection of people to be made redundant, you then need to talk to each individual to explain why he or she has been selected, and what questions or suggestions they may make for remaining in employment.
