Workers prepared to pack their bags for the right job

pp_default1

Location is not an issue if the right job is at stake, with as many as 77% of people prepared to relocate to a different city for work.

This is according to a new survey by recruitment powerhouse Kelly Services, which found that 66% would go as far as moving abroad for the dream job whilst 47% would consider relocating to a country where they didn’t fluently speak the language.

A long commute isn’t putting off all workers either with over a sixth prepared to devote at least two hours a day to travelling to work although the majority (51%) are not willing to spend more than 45 minutes getting to the office.

Steve Girdler, Kelly Services director of marketing, said: “With a more globalised workforce, there is increasing recognition that people may have to relocate to find the right work, or to advance their career. There are many skills that are easily transferable across borders, especially in sectors such as banking and finance, IT, science and engineering.”

Younger workers (34 years and below) and men are the most likely candidates to jump ship. Unsurprisingly, family is the main factor keeping workers at home (55%).

Polish workers showed the most interest in moving for work (90%) and just over half say they would like to stay living and working where they currently live until they retire.

A total of 115,000 people in 33 countries, including almost 7,000 in the UK, were quizzed as part of the survey.
