Editor’s Note
=============
Childcare vouchers exempt from tax and national insurance payments
encourage many parents to return to work. Professional services firm
PricewaterhouseCoopers is a prime example. It boosted its flagging
maternity return rates from 40 per cent to 89 per cent between 2000 and
2006 by introducing the voucher scheme. But what are the hidden costs
and do they work for all types of organisations? Sarah Fletcher
reports.

Childcare Vouchers – Significant savings for working parents and
employers
/—————————————————————
Employers who want to improve retention and accelerate the
recruitment of key staff are having to provide family friendly
benefits for their employees. Childcare Vouchers are tax and
National Insurance exempt for up to 55 pounds per week,
providing a saving of up to 1,195 pounds per year for a working
parent and around 370 pounds for the employer. As a result,
Childcare Vouchers are today the most widely used form of
employer-assisted childcare in the UK. Click here for a
comprehensive Guide to Childcare Vouchers.

HR Tip: Notice for senior staff
——————————-
“One of our employees told his manager to “stuff his job” and went home
before normal finishing time. We took this to mean that he had resigned
with immediate effect. However the following morning he came back to
work, apologised to his boss for being rude, and said that he did not
intend to resign. We don’t want him back after this so can we safely
insist that he has left our employment?”
