Tuesday afternoon is the new Friday

pp_default1

Workers are secretly surfing online for jobs on Tuesday afternoons, a time when productivity is hitting rock bottom.

These are the findings of online recruitment website fish4jobs which reveals that the typical job hunter is expending an average eight minutes and 37 seconds looking for their next move. Job hoppers are also likely to return to the site on a number of occasions throughout the working day.

Two thirds admit to being found out by their boss. A quarter of the more savvy pull out important looking spreadsheets to disguise what they are really doing.

Incredibly, 5 per cent reported that their boss didn’t mind staff searching the internet whilst at work.

fish4cars and fish4homes also ran a similar survey to identify the most popular times in the week for car and home searches. Results showed that the busiest time is Tuesday lunchtime and late afternoon, still within normal working hours. The average length of time spent on the site for both cars and homes is just under eight minutes per visit.

Joe Slavin, CEO of fish4, said: “In our experience, Tuesday afternoons are the trigger point in the week when most employees’ minds start to wander and reflect on their current job situation – hence we always see a spike in traffic just after 3pm. Not only do they start searching for jobs, but they also browse for cars and homes on our site during this period.”
