Coaching a ‘challenge’ for organisations

pp_default1

Knowing how to best implement coaching within organisations is a challenge for learning and development professionals, according to new research.

This is despite the fact that 71% of UK employers currently use coaching within their organisation, found the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s (CIPD) Developing Coaching Capability in Organisations report.

The research also showed that many businesses are implementing their coaching strategies through trial and error and are unsure as to whether they are on the right track.

Dr John McGurk, learning and development adviser at the CIPD, said that learning and development professionals must be in tune with their organisation, while understanding and protecting the value coaching can offer.

He added: “The most significant challenge for businesses is to develop the appropriate level of structure to enable coaching relationships to be as effective as possible. A one- size-fits-all approach will never offer real value.”

The report was launched at the CIPD’s annual HRD conference in London.
