The Creative Media Group Invests in Multimedia Based Training for the Hospitality Industry

pp_default1

Following the success of the Food Safety 2000 CD-ROM, developed as a joint venture with Highfield Publications, The Creative Media Group has set up a new operating division, Creative Training Media, dedicated to the development of a range of off-the-shelf Multimedia Based Training (MBT) programmes for the Hospitality, Leisure and Food Industries.

Funded by a capital injection from a group of private investors, Creative Training Media has moved to dedicated new premises near Honiton in Devon, installed a £30,000 development studio and recruited 6 additional developers with backgrounds in training course design, graphics, video production and multimedia programming. Paul Fear, former head of one of the regulars in the ‘Independent on Sunday’ top 100 fastest growing private UK companies, has been drafted in to oversee the company’s high growth strategy.

The new studio is fully equipped with the latest software including digital video editing and 3D virtual reality production facilities. With the gradual rollout of broadband services the company is already working on delivering their media-rich training direct from the Internet. This will provide many advantages including instant course updates, real ‘just-in-time’ training and cost-effective access by any individual or company, anywhere in the world.

The new team will be developing a comprehensive range of multimedia-based training packages covering all disciplines. One of the first releases from the new programme (which aims to deliver two new titles a year) will be Health & Safety, scheduled for release early in 2001. The package will encompass all mandatory training requirements for catering, service and food production staff including fire safety, manual handling and accident prevention.

Earlier this year, Food Safety 2000 won an International Gold Award and is the only MBT programme to be commended by the Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene. Food Safety 2000 provides basic food hygiene training from just £3.00 per person – a fraction of the cost of the equivalent one-day classroom based course, making Food Safety 2000 one of the most economical ways to comply with legislation requiring the training of food handlers.

Richard Taylor, Group Managing Director, confirms that the key reason for the increasing popularity and success of MBT as a training delivery method is accessibility. “Making good quality training available to an entire work force, including shift, temporary and part-time workers is a tall order, especially if you have high staff turnover. MBT solves this problem by being available in the workplace 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

Users also report that they find the highly visual and interactive style of the training “captivating and challenging”, making MBT a hit with both trainers and trainees alike.

Notes for Editors

Creative Training Media specialises in the development of multimedia-based training packages for the Hospitality, Leisure and Food Industries. It is part of The Creative Media Group, which also includes Creative Marketing Media (specialist website designers for tourism and related industries) and HotelLink (an online leisure guide and directory of Hotels, Guest Houses and Holiday Cottages).

The Creative Media Group co-developed Food Safety 2000 with Highfield Publications*. The training package is used by hotels, pubs, restaurant groups and food manufacturers, both in the UK and abroad. The system is also popular with schools and local authorities. Joe Laverick, Health and Safety Advisor for Business Link Devon and Cornwall, is not surprised that many food companies are jumping at the opportunity to implement such a cost-effective training tool. “Food Safety 2000 is a marvelous tool for companies to allow individuals to train at their own pace and whenever they have a spare half hour or so.”

*Highfield Publications is the UK’s leading independent supplier of quality food hygiene training aids and has customers in more than 80 countries worldwide. Their best-selling books include ‘Hygiene for Management’, which is used on nearly all advanced food hygiene courses, and ‘The Food Hygiene Handbook’ which has sold over a million copies.
