The TUC has welcomed the launch of a “workers web page” on the Health and Safety Executive website today.

It is the first example of a Government body creating a portal specifically for workers.

At last week’s Congress, the TUC committed itself to reaching out to the missing millions of workers who are not yet union members by harnessing the latest technologies (such as the web). The workers web page forms the next step in the TUC’s health and safety internet strategy which already provides specific health and safety information on the TUC website, and Risks, the TUC’s weekly online bulletin.

TUC General Secretary, John Monks, said, “Workers now have their own way onto the HSE website, where they can find out their rights, check out whether their employer is playing fair and, if necessary, blow the whistle on the web.”

Health and Safety Commission Chair Bill Callaghan said, “Increasing use of the internet makes the “Workers Web Page” an ideal tool for getting HSE’s health and safety message across. By reaching out to key customers and explaining worker rights and responsibilities, we are laying a foundation of knowledge that will help to make our workplaces safer places to be.”
