HR Tip: Qualifying for employment protection

pp_default1

These questions are being answered by Learn HR, a market leader in the provision of HR and payroll training and nationally-recognised professional qualifications.

Q: I understand that employees with one year of service acquire employment protection, that is to say there must be a good reason for dismissing them. Is there a minimum number of hours attached to this qualification?

A: No, this qualification applies regardless of hours worked. If you propose to dismiss, then not only must you have a good reason but you must also follow the statutory dismissal procedure and the guidelines set out in the ACAS Code of Practice.
