Question: Can we ban alcohol from the workplace? If so, how?
HR Tip: You can do so simply by making and publishing a rule. However consider the following points before rushing to print:
- Is alcohol served in an on-site canteen or club?
- Are important visitors offered alcoholic drinks, say over lunch?
- Can people who have been shopping in the midday break leave bottles and cans in their locker?
- Or even in their desks if unopened?
Clearly you want to stop people boozing at work, but you may feel a need to make exceptions for some of the situations above.
