The modern business traveller doesn't have to rely on flight numbers written on bits of paper or printing out maps as there are lots of apps to help make a trip go smoothly. TripIt allows you to organise travel plans in one place. Forward travel confirmation emails and the app creates a daily itinerary for your trip.

Citymapper is a map app that provides rail, underground and bus options, as well as walking and cycling routes, hire-bike availability and weather forecasts. It is currently available in New York, Paris, London and Berlin.

If you need to access your work files on the move, Dropbox is one way to do it. Alternatives are Google Drive and Box.
Remember the time when you had to stand on the side of the road trying to flag down a cab? Not any more. The taxi and minicab app market has exploded over recent years. They include Hailo for black cabs in London, Uber in London, Manchester and worldwide,Kabee for minicabs in London, Minicabster for minicabs in London, Birmingham, Croydon and Manchester and Tapsi for taxis in Bristol.
If you're doing the driving yourself, the AA Breakdown and Traffic and RAC Mobile Traffic apps provide live traffic updates.
There are many sat-nav applications on the market including Tom Tom, Google Maps, and Navfree.
For searching for cheap flights, Skyscanner is a popular choice.
