Random Drug Testing definition

Drug testing without prior warning, undertaken in order to mitigate any attempts by employees to fool drug tests – these attempts typically require advanced knowledge of when the tests will be.

Random drug testing is still undertaken as part of an organisation’s overall policy on drugs – testing employees randomly without prior warning that drugs test will take place at some time can give rise to legal repercussions.

Drug tests work by analysing biological specimens, typically hair, urine or a cheek swab – for illegal substances or their metabolites.
