Social Networking definition

Social networking is the process of building and maintaining social relationships. The term is most commonly applied to online relationship-building, either for enjoyment or to establish social currency to be exploited. Social networking is conducted on social networks, such as MySpace and Facebook, and is made up individual interactions that build links between people, groups, communities and businesses.

Social networking can also take place within businesses on specialised social networks, which often form part of HR software or talent management suites. These social networks are often focused on information and knowledge-sharing.
