Baby Boomers definition

Baby boomers are people born, according to the US Census Bureau, between the years 1946 and 1964, although the precise window varies. Culturally, baby boomers are those born in the post-World War II boom in population growth.

Some commentators ascribe characteristics to baby boomers as a generation, although these labels are controversial. Baby boomers are often seen as having a strong cultural identity, having grown up in times of dramatic social and political change.

Baby boomers hold a significant proportion of personal wealth across the western world and also occupy senior positions within the workforce. They are predicted to cause financial difficulties when they leave work as private equity funds struggle to fund their retirement.

Baby boomers compare with Generation X (born between early 1960s to the early 1980s), Generation Y (also known as Millennials, born between 1985 and 1995) and Generation Z (born between the early 2000s and the present day).
