I’ve been offered a promotion within same role and team I work, just taking on additional responsibility. The promotion adds to the existing contract stating it’s a trial period of 3 months at what time a review will take place which all sounds fine. What I find awkward but I’d love to hear some thoughts on is the following; If not successful, efforts will be taken to source a suitable alternative position of equal status and if that’s not possible it goes into a consultancy period before any further action is taken that affects my position with the company.

There will be no replacement of the existing position in this period, but phrased like it is I almost read this as opening up for making my position redundant should they wish to after the trial of the promotion, not saying they can do similar in all cases but I presume it would have to be justify otherwise. Also is it normal that a promotion comes with caveat to not fall back on the previous position when there should be no team or company changes in general? Then again maybe this is common practice and nothing to worry about?
