As a team leader, motivating your employees to get excited about work isn’t always easy.  Personal issues, sickness, or financial worries can all affect an employee’s attitude or feeling towards their work, and in some cases can be detrimental to an employee’s overall wellbeing.  Because of this, it is important that employers pay special attention to workplace morale and the feelings of their employees. Here are a few fun ways to get your employees excited about work and improve the vibe of your office!

Hold Weekly Roundtables

One of the best ways to assess how your employees are feeling is by holding weekly roundtable discussions.  These types of discussions give everybody the chance to speak and share their thoughts and feelings for that week.  Allowing open communication will make your team feel that they can be open and honest with their feelings, which is an important part of creating a happy and healthy work environment.  Your team will appreciate being able to speak freely about whatever is on their mind, and as a team leader, this gives you an opportunity to learn more about your employees and assess things that may need improvement.  Speaking openly with your team can give you insight of the overall flow of your office that you otherwise may not have been aware of.

Set A Good Example

As a team leader, your employees look to you for guidance throughout the workweek, so make sure you’re setting a strong example.  One of the best ways to bridge the gap between team and team leader is to be as transparent as possible with your team. Sharing successes with your team will make them feel that they are part of something big, and will make them feel motivated to work extra hard.  Obviously, you don’t need to share every minute detail of your daily tasks, but sharing crucial information with your team is important in improving employee morale. Make sure your team knows that when you win, they win as well. After all, a good boss leads by example, so make sure your leadership reflects that.

Offer Fun Perks & Incentives

Make it a point to have at least a few “fun” days per month, such as office outings, food Fridays, or in-office events.  Giving your employees something to look forward to will boost their moods and get them excited to come to work, so consider offering team perks and incentives.  Something as simple as a catered lunch or healthy snack delivery will get your team buzzing with excitement and will show that you care.  You can also consider offering additional perks, like mental health days or extra time off.  Many companies, including Netflix and Virgin Group, have started offering their employees “unlimited vacation”, as long as they are able to manage their time and meet any deadlines before they leave.  Offering fun perks and incentives is a great way to boost workplace morale and get your team excited about work!
