The HR Heads Career Profile Series: We speak with HR specialists within our network to find out what ‘a typical day in the office’ looks like, what they consider their greatest career success to be, what advice they’d give their 20 year old self and we also explore some of their favourite things. This edition features Andy Craig, Group HR Director at Hogg Robinson Group.

What does a typical day in the office look like for you?
There is no one typical day. Each day is different and varied. At the moment we are rolling out a Global Performance Management and Learning Management system across 25 countries around the Globe so much of my time is spent reviewing progress on this strategic initiative.

As Group HR Director, what do you love about your job?
I love seeing employees succeed, grow in confidence and develop. We have recently completed a Senior Leadership Programme to develop our senior managers below the Executive Board and it has been extremely pleasing to see how they have progressed and developed.

What lies ahead for you over the next 12 months?
Many projects and initiatives to continue to make Hogg Robinson a great place to work.

Can you tell us about your proudest career moments?
Early on in my career I was involved in a turnaround project transforming a failing business into a highly profitable one. In conjunction with the CEO and the Senior Leadership team we defined the Strategy and then, most importantly, clearly communicated this to the workforce so that they could see how they were going to fit in and play their part in making the company a success. We communicated the Strategy thorough a 1 page “Big Picture” document, which the employees loved.

What advice would you give your 20 year old self?
Gain international experience as early as you can in your career and make sure you have a mentor.
