Apologies if this is in the wrong area….

I have been asked to prepare a draft policy/notice for sickness whilst abroad.

I am new to HR and have never seen this kind of policy before.

Does anyone have any they are willing to share? The key pionts I need to address are :

To ensure the relevent Doctors sicknote is produced. In some countries i.e Poland they are issued with either a full sick note, like ours – which has the reference numbers for the person, and is stamped by the GP or a little sick pass, which doesn’t mean anythiing, no stamp, no number. The doctor doesn’t even have to record these. We have been getting a lot of staff going off (Home) on holidays and not coming back when due. This , they say, is due to sickness whilst away … and they produce the different forms, but no UK one.

So it needs to stress what we will accept and what we won’t… I wonder what you do or would do?

In addition to this …

Do they qualify for SSP whilst abroad on a foriegn sick note? Is it illeagal not to pay it? Should they get one here when they come back? Are there different regulations if its an EU country or not?

Any advise on this matter is greatly appreciated, and some help with wording, would be even better !!!

I have to start somewhere, Thank you very much,

Cathy
