This week has been a mixture of reward and benefit, engagement and even a smattering of health and wellbeing. Of course, all of these things are inextricably linked – that’s the beauty of HR and the importance of it as a business partnering function.

We are rapidly heading into June, where we will be exploring recruitment. With the talk of job cuts in the public sector it may seem strange, but recruitment is an area where methods and techniques are changing – see this week’s example from L’Oreal – and organisations naturally need the best talent to help life them out of recession. When it comes to new recruits there was also the report that 20% would turn down a job which banned Facebook – food for thought on the social media front.

Reward has clearly been changing, with employees valuing less tangible rewards today and employers considering such notions as appreciation instead of the more traditional cash sandwich.
