Cognitive Ability Testing definition

A test designed to measure an individual’s cognitive function in a specific area, such as verbal reasoning, spatial awareness or mathematics. Used by organisations in the recruitment process to help predict a candidate’s future aptitude for the position.

Cognitive ability testing has come under criticism for failing to address cultural biases. Tests that combine tests for multiple skills into a single score have also been criticised for giving an unfair overview of an individual’s abilities.
