Dear All,

Last year my department reduced from 4 to 2 including myslef (due to 2 employees leaving the company), and their roles and responsibilities have been covered by myself and my colleague.

I have now received an e-mail from my boss stating that he also wants me to take over the management of another department in addition to these duties.

I feel that my current role is more than enough, and that I could not take on any additional duties.

The e-mail is also contradictory as my manager states that I am making mistakes, not keeping up to date, and not focusing on “important priority areas”.

I therefore cannot understand how giving me extra work will improve things – if I am unable to complete all work now, then giving me extra work will not help matters !!

Any help or advise would be advised – I presume that I do not have to accept any changes to terms and conditions, but I do not want to make my working life difficult (I ge the impression that if I decline, my life could get difficult in other ways….)

I may be getting paranoid, but I think that my boss is trying to blame some of his short-comings on myself (he sent me an e-mail that was copied to other directors).

The company is privately owned and the HR department falls under the responsibility of my boss !! (it is therefore difficult to discuss any issues with the HR department).
