When it comes to hiring, the healthcare sector is quite different from many other industries. While some roles are in high demand, others are not. Likewise, some roles require very specific qualifications, while others may only require a secondary education.

In the UK we have increasingly seen the healthcare sector looking to recruit workers from abroad to supplement our workforce. In the medical sector, 60% of candidates search for job openings on job boards. With this in mind, there are four ways in which healthcare employers can improve their hiring process.

Clearly Define Job Roles

Successful job descriptions are two things: concise and accurate. An overly detailed and lengthy description may put off potential candidates by making it unclear as to whether the opportunity is relevant to them. On the other hand, vague descriptions often result in too many applications from unsuitable candidates. Be sure to clearly define the job position and level, the responsibilities that are involved in the job and the qualifications that are needed. Bullet points can be a great way to clearly outline responsibilities without going into unnecessary detail.

Use Strong Keywords

Strong keywords are integral to strong online profiles and job listings. Using the right keywords in your job listing will ensure that it ranks highly on searches so that more potential candidates are able to find it. Check other healthcare job listings to see which job titles are the most commonly used, and make sure that your own job titles are specific. Include keywords in the job description too as this can also affect the ranking of the listing.

Choose a Mobile-Friendly Website

Mobile recruiting has been tipped as one of the top trends for 2015. Currently 43% of job seekers use a mobile device to search for jobs, but this figure is increasing every year. Not all websites and jobs boards are mobile-ready, but this is essential if you want to reach a broad candidate base. Choose to advertise jobs on a mobile-friendly website which has mobile optimised job listings. This way, you won’t miss any candidate’s search.

Think Niche

The correct placement of your job posting is crucial to ensuring you get the best candidates available. At first, larger job boards which have more users may seem like the best option. However, larger sites also have a huge number of jobs as well as a very broad set of candidates. Many of these candidates won’t be searching for healthcare work. A niche job board, on the other hand, targets only relevant and qualified candidates meaning that applicants are likely to be of a higher quality. Niche sites also have a more specific search function to allow users to quickly and simply find the job opportunities which they are looking for without needing to trawl through pages of irrelevant postings.

Posting on a large job board means that the ad will be reaching a wide audience, but many of them won’t be relevant candidates. Choosing a niche job board allows you to target the right audience and therefore attract the top talent.
