After several events with tweet-ups, including our own HRzone tweet-ups, an official CIPD tweet-up and other event-inspired Twitter get-togethers, Jon Ingham and Gareth Jones have organised the first standalone UK tweet-up – ConnectingHR. It’s happening on 29 March 2010 in London.

Much as we know not everyone is on Twitter, those of us who are find it a great tool and and brilliant way to stay in touch with other interesting, influential and inspirational HR practitioners.

If you’d been thinking about getting involved with Twitter, now is definitely the time, and if you come to the event as a Twitter newcomer you’ll meet plenty of people to help you get the most out of it.

What is a tweet-up?

If you thought Twitter was an excuse to sit in front of your computer and not interact in real life, think again. Twitter has inspired people all over the world to meet each other face to face. Sometimes they are based locally, sometimes they are worldwide, with people travelling across continents to meet those they currently only talk to online.

Ok, well, what happens?

Obviously it depends on the event but these are social occasions. It’s quite usual to have one in a pub, and usually the tweeters wear their Twitter names on badges so they can be easily identified to those who know each other from Twitter. It’s an opportunity to network informally, make great connections and meet like-minded people who you can then follow on, you guessed it, Twitter! Sometimes there’s games, sometimes a theme, but this one is to get together the great HR twitter community based in the UK and maybe beyond.

How do I get involved?

Accept your invitation here – it’s free -and come along on 29 March. On this page you can also see who’s already coming – you’ll see me (charlie_elise) on there, along with Jon Ingham (joningham) and a lot of other influential HR people who use Twitter.

I’d love to see you there – don’t forget to get in touch and make me aware you’ll be there and I’ll make sure we meet up at the Tweet up: tweet me @hrzone/@charlie_elise or email [email protected].
